Youth Theatre Classes!

  • Theatre Exploration for Ages 4-7 $55/month | Saturdays from 9:45AM-10:30AM

This class will provide students with a basic understanding of acting and singing as well as a range of different theatrical elements. We will use movement and play games to introduce topics such as stage directions, scene partners, ensemble singing, and playwriting! Each class will begin with a storytime that will correspond to the lesson of the week, as well as a clip from a musical to expose them to more theatre and get them talking about the different aspects of performance (lighting, sound, costumes, etc.). Students will be encouraged to practice performing in front of peers and using their voices and bodies to tell a story and create new worlds through different crafts, activities, and projects! By the end of this class, students will be able to identify the plot, characters, and setting of a story. They will feel more comfortable with the world of theatre, and will have the necessary skills to perform in a studio showcase!

  • Theatrical Styles for Ages 7-9 $60/month Saturdays from 12:30PM-1:30PM

This class will dive deeper into the world of theatre and provide students with a range of experiences. Students will work on projects as a class that will encourage them to grow and explore the different styles of theatre. As a class, we will work on stage presence and their ability to work as a team to tell a story. We will explore topics such as puppetry, ensemble singing, scenes versus monologues, improv, and acting through song. Students will be encouraged to explore the element of play that exists in acting through a variety of games and exercises. They will craft an actor warm-up that gets them ready for a performance and prepares their voice and bodies. Throughout the class, we will build their repertoire and set them up for success in an audition room; they will learn how to give and receive constructive feedback and identify what makes them stand out in an audition or performance. By the end of this class, students will feel confident in their ability to perform by themselves and as a group, and they will have the necessary skills to perform in a studio showcase.

Meet Ms. Sammy!

  • Sammy Wilson is a Capital Region local and has been involved in theatre and dance for over ten years now. She has her BA in Theatre with minors in musical theatre and film studies and is pursuing a Masters in Educational Theatre. She has been involved in various productions around the capital district both choreographing and performing. Sammy, also, has experience working with SLOC, Not So Common Players, Schenectady Civic Players, and CDAI as an intimacy coordinator, and she is extremely excited that this aspect of theatre is being talked about and put into practice more often.
